  • "My supervisor negotiated a big raise for me, just because I refuse to use ChatGPT."

I was writing a speech for our CEO for a huge media event. Our company is slow to catch up policy- wise on things like Al, so I've noticed a lot of people in my department have been using ChatGPT to produce their work.
  • The result is what you'd expect, all that corny crop peppered with em-dashes and sounding like a TED talk. My manager was hovering near me that day and he noticed I wasn't using ChatGPT, even though I'm allowed to do so. When I
  • finished the first draft, he read it, told me he loved it, and complimented me for refusing to use Al to do it. He asked why and I told him I take pride in my work and pay attention to every detail.

  • He asked me if I could do a quick press release and I typed it up right there on the spot, and it was done within fifteen minutes and he liked the result. He told me he was going to make sure the company notices how much effort and quality I put in.
  • So yeah, turns out he meant it, and he spent ages negotiating with the upper management to get me a 10% raise 68 love him. I still can't |
  • believe he managed to convince them to do that just because I refuse to use ChatGPT. Seems crazy but I'm happy!

  • brett49703 You didn't get a raise "just because you refuse to use chatgpt". You got it because you do good work.
  • NoDryHands That's actually amazing, good job on your part! And you're incredibly lucky to have such an amazing manager who genuinely advocates for their reports and stays true to their word.

  • dsarche12 As seemingly one of the only people at my company who actively dislikes using Al and keeps seething at how pervasive and obviously insidious it is in the industry today, I applaud you and I applaud your supervisor!!
  • driftless_crow 1. Good for you! 2. A pointless frustration: I hate how using em dashes are now a sign of Al work. I'm sorry I just love my diverse forms of punctuation...
  • ta52566 OP Agreed. People who have always loved using em-dashes, Oxford commas, and semi-colons are now always being accused of using GPT. TBH though, it's not a great indicator of something being Al-authored. I tend to look at overall sentence structure and tone. ChatGPT is
